Ben Harding’s Voice I (2011)
Maass Gallery, Purchase College
In this installation I began with some of the imagery from Speaking with Stones (2009)- in particular the image of Ben Harding’s Voice. In this installation I chose to emphasize the abstracted representation of language. I extended the triangles from the wall into the space by making an inchoate form out of thin black line. I used tape to extend the drawing onto the floor. I also cut up the original text and painted the words on vellum, reconstructing them in a random order like fragments from a poem. The three dimensional structure gave form to the “ruff language” described in the text.
